no-one else has our elevated views of Kaikoura - just 8 minutes out of town but close enough to be not too far away from all towns offerings and experiences but with the bonus of the quiet and sounds of rural life!
Do recommend 2 nights or more but if only can fit in 1 that is fine too!

We certainly know that travelling can be an exhausting experience - we do see you when you arrive and some folks are just drained, some of the stories we can tell... (but we won't!).
At the Cubby House Stay you will certainly have time to relax, catch up even if its just on your washing or sanity - have a laugh and just take a "time out" for a couple days to actually enjoy
a place you decided to stay at with the person/people your travelling with.
Kaikoura and our farmland has a lot of things to see and do - or not - remember the choice is yours!
So with that in mind hopefully you're reading this before you complete all your bookings of the South Island.
We are between Christchurch (International Airport) down south and Picton up north which is where you catch or arrive on the ferry to/from Wellington - speaking of, just check your car hire if heading across as you may have to get a new one on the other side - just saying as a few don't know about this one until the last minute!
But back to us... We always hear "Wish we could stay longer but have to catch a flight or a ferry or booked here and need to get there on this date". That is frustrating for us and also our guests as most don't realise how much time it takes to actually travel around the South Island as there is so much to see and do and often comment they are just rushing to get to the next destination - WHY?
Remember it's supposed to be a memorable holiday and not a OK I had forgotten about that when you're going through your photos - its a holiday not a race around the place - JUST ENJOY IT!
SO, with all the comments we get I'm passing on a suggestion..
Just book us as a "rest, recoup, reconnect" kind of stay so your ready for your next part of your travels, North, South or heading to or from the West Coast as driving and being a passenger (plus insert a kid or 2) its so draining, tiring, expensive - yes we hear you and know - we have 6 kids so feel your pain travelling together .
It will test you..
Ok, off track a little I guess - so back to the nitty gritty - we have recently changed our name
from the Artists Retreat to the "Cubby House Stay" in September 2022.
Our house is 50m up the driveway from the Cubby House, and perched up on our own private little hill with fantastic elevated town, farmland and mountain views.
The Cubby House is a 2 storey, 3 bedroom private quirky timber house made mostly from reclaimed and recycled materials and can sleep 6.
Plus it is equipped like no other stay you have probably had!
If you're travelling alone, a couple, a family, a group of friends look no further - just book us now!
We even have Camper Van stayers coming to have a break in between journeys for a short respite.
Comfortable beds and lounges, fantastic views, plenty of board games, piano, guitar, so many TV streaming services to choose from, free wifi, breakfast supplied so you can cook when your ready and a coffee machine so you can actually make cafe quality coffee.
Tea drinkers aren't forgotten here either we have a huge selection to choose from.
Our commitment to providing you a comfortable, quirky and relaxing stay is incomparable and make sure you don't forget to keep your camera handy as our animals are pretty darn cool too!.

We have so many to choose from: Disney+, Netflix, Neon, Prime, TV NZ, Sky all channels, Sky Sports, Apple TV, Acorn, Mubi, You Tube, Internet all available on the television.
Breakfast
We supply it - you cook it when your ready to eat.
Bacon, eggs, mushrooms, tomatoes, cereal, yoghurt, bread for toast, condiments, juice, milk selection (cow,almond,rice,oat).
BBQ on the deck for dinner/breakfast to take in the stunning views.
DOWNSTAIRS
You will find yourself relaxing in some pretty comfortable lounges. 1 is electric with 2 recliner seats. Wall mounted TV with heaps of streaming services, coffee table big enough so you can play board or card games, a pretty cool chess table too. Huge double glazed doors to take in the ocean and town view. Fireplace will be going if it's cold or ready just in case a cold snap comes through - plenty wood to keep you warm for a few days and nights.
QUEEN BEDROOM with draws and bedside table - big window to take in the view, bluetooth alarm clock. Freshly made bed with linen from hire company.
SINGLE BEDROOM has 2 single beds, a cot, 2 sets draws, bluetooth alarm clock, freshly made beds with linen from hire company.
LAUNDRY with washing machine, dryer and cleaning products so you can catch up on your holiday washing, fire extinguisher, smoke alarms.
BATHROOM this has a toilet, basin and small bath/shower combination - towels, mats toiletries etc. We will be updating the bathroom shortly, but in the meantime it is all still fully usable, functional and kind of a 70's quirky batch vibe going on.
GAMES - games and more games! Heaps of board and card games to choose from.
DECK with seating and a BBQ so you have an option to cook and even eat outside on a nice day or evening. There are 2 timber table areas to choose from.

Upstairs
This is all open plan if you think loft / studio style - 1 large open room.
The fully equipped kitchen with enough pots & pans so you can cook a home cooked meal if you decide to stay in!
Plus there is a rice cooker, wok, electric oven with 4 burner hob, microwave, air fryer, all cooking utensils etc - coffee machine and condiments just bring your additional special food items you want to eat or drink.
We also supply some additional extra food items too!
Small sitting area with 2 lounges and 1 pulls out to a queen pull out sofa bed if needing.
Dining table and chairs that seats 6 and a high chair if needing.
Chest of toys to help keep the kids entertained whilst you're cooking.
King bed is near the large doors so you can wake up to some pretty ever changing sky, farm, sea views.
Bluetooth alarm clock, sewing kit, medical kit, fire extinguisher, smoke alarm plus more.. Hopefully we have covered everything you will need or want, if not just ask as we change stuff in/out and "should" have it there somewhere!

Our Friendly Animals
You will be able to grab a picture with some of our friendly animals.
Cows, Sheep, Pigs, Ducks, Chickens, Guinea Fowl, Trevor the Turkey, aviary birds.
Our resident pet animals are our Groodle dog Merle and Bengal cat Dorothy. We also have a fellow deer pottering around the place too.
Can even bottle feed any little's we may have about too!

We are so close to all towns attractions and far enough away for the tranquillity of farm life - just the best spot!

Whale watch - boat or plane, Blue Penguin Tour, Albatross Tour,

Culinary cooking class experience, Surfing, Surf or Paddle board hire, Bike/Scooter hire, Horse Treks, Llama Treks, Clarence River Rafting, Dive/Learn to Dive, Shopping, Restaurants, Cafes, Bars/Pubs, Library, Swimming Pool, Movie Theatre.
A visit to the Museum and the Lookout is an absolute must!
We can sort a helicopter to pick you up and/or drop off here!

ALL WE ASK IS:
Used kitchen items rinsed and then popped in the dishwasher.
Used towels in the basket in the bathroom.
Games to be packed away in their box (with all pieces etc).
